One and Done: Arizona F Deandre Ayton makes formal NBA announcement

To the surprise of no one, Arizona freshman forward Deandre Ayton has declared for the 2018 NBA Draft.

Ayton formally announced the news on Twitter on Wednesday.

The Arizona forward informally said he was going to the NBA on the heels of the team’s upset loss to Buffalo in the NCAA Tournament.

Ayton’s decision to turn pro doesn’t catch anyone by surprise. He is widely considered the best player in college basketball this season.

The 7-foot-1 forward averaged 20.1 points, 11.6 rebounds and 1.9 blocks in his first and only season with the Wildcats.

Ayton won Pac-12 Player of the Year and he is a finalist to win the Naismith College Basketball Player of the Year.

NBA scouts are impressed with his footwork and his athleticism. He has the ability to play power forward and center. The Bahamian is an impact player at both ends of the court. Most draft analysts project that he will be the No. 1 player selected in this year’s draft, which makes his decision on Wednesday a no-brainer.
